Ramsgate Week 08

Ramsgate Week 2010 is the Royal Temple Yacht Club annual regatta and is widely recognised as the friendly regatta and the alternative to Cowes. Ramsgate Week 2010 is sponsored for the second year by Vattenfall.

You get to meet all the competitors in the marquee, the town is only a 5 minute walk from your berth and there is now an abundance of bars & restaurants in the town (no you don't need to book 3 months in advance either!)

Ramsgate Week 2010 will accommodate IRC classes 1-3, one design classes & 3 cruiser classes - two white sails only.

Note new web site www.ramsgateweek.com

Ramsgate Week is making further changes for 2010 in order to onwardly develop the successful formulae we operated in 2008 & 2009. We recognise that we must accommodate those that want to have a full weeks holiday and those that can only take a couple of days off. We believe we have created a very special format for 2010 and look forward to welcoming both old and new competitors to our special regatta week.

In 2010 our racing programme has been amended to provide a gap between the end of Cowes Week and the start of Ramsgate Week. We are also hosting an IRC Series for classes 1-3 running from Thursday to Saturday requiring only 2 days away from the office to come and participate in what is the friendliest & least expensive regatta in one of the most up and coming holiday towns in the UK.

Competitors are now able to select the races they wish to enter from the menu options below:

IRC Mid week series – IRC Classes 1-3 series of 3 special and coastal races, 1 race per day from Monday to Wednesday with the Wednesday race being round the Goodwin sands. This is a warm up series to the main IRC Series and competitors will be treated to some of the most scenic waters with races extending to Botany Bay, the shingle beaches off Deal and the wildlife around the Goodwin Sands.

IRC Regatta series – IRC Classes 1-3 series of 7 races with 3 races on Thursday, 2 on Friday and 2 on Saturday. This series starts on Thursday and finishes on Saturday.

SailEAST - IRC Classes 1-3 a highly competitive 4 race series of SailEAST qualifying races as both part of the IRC Ramsgate Week Series. The SailEAST Regatta series starts on Friday and finishes on Saturday. The best 3 races from this 4 race series will count towards SailEAST points.

X-35 Class - East Coast Open Championships, results to be extracted from IRC class 1. Series of 7 races with 3 races on Thursday, 2 on Friday and 2 on Saturday. This series starts on Thursday and finishes on Saturday. The X-35 class will sail under IRC with all boats using the class handicap. IRC Crew limits not class weight limits will apply.

Class 5 Unrestricted cruiser class with spinnakers. This is intended for cruiser sailors or racers who
may be shorthanded for the week. There are no sail restrictions for this class but a yacht choosing
to be rated in this class without spinnakers must remain without spinnakers throughout the entire
series. Boats competing in this Class will be issued an RTYC Handicap TCC figure by the Race
Committee. Handicaps may be adjusted to maintain the spirit of this class.

Class 6 Fast cruiser class without spinnakers. This is intended for the less serious racer with non
high tech sails and the use of spinnakers is prohibited. Boats competing in this Class will sail a
longer course than Class 7 and will be issued an RTYC Handicap TCC figure by the Race Committee.
Handicaps may be adjusted to maintain the spirit of this class.

Class 7
Slow cruiser class without spinnakers. This is intended for the less serious racer with non
high tech sails and the use of spinnakers is prohibited. Boats competing in this Class will sail a
shorter course than Classes 5 & 6 and will be issued an RTYC Handicap TCC figure by the Race
Committee. Handicaps may be adjusted to maintain the spirit of this class.

The Cruiser class 5,6 & 7 series starts on Monday with 1 race each day finishing on Saturday.

Entry fees - in 2010 we have again not increased any entry fees. See web site for full details on entry fees.

Harbour

Why choose Ramsgate?

Fantastic sailing waters: Ramsgate benefits from excellent sailing conditions, with numerous racing buoys, set out in constant depth and unprotected yet sheltered water. The start line, be it our usual club line or from a committee boat, is just minutes away from the harbour entrance.

200 berth marina with excellent facilities: The marina, set in the historic royal harbour, offers 200 berths with water and electricity provided. Lifting and repair facilities are available. The toilet, shower and laundry block are next to the marina. The Royal Temple Yacht Club has formed a close relationship with Ramsgate Harbour and will co-ordinate the event. Free parking during the regatta.

A championship venue: Having hosted many championships, including the X99 Worlds, X332 Nationals and the Impala Europeans to name but a few, The Royal Temple Yacht Club is adept at organising such events.

The new format Ramsgate Week: Running such a prestigious sailing event alongside the established Ramsgate Week means the event will benefit from the expert international Racing Officers, a results office and jury room set up by the marina and a waterside marquee with après sail drinks and entertainment every evening. Not to mention the host of trophies to be awarded including the coveted Gold Cup and the QEII cup, the only yachting cup ever to be presented by the Queen.

Royal Temple Yacht Club: The club is renowned for its facilities, including two bars, a billiards room, TV room, reasonably priced accommodation and a 90 seat restaurant serving a carvery every night.

August – a prime time: Ramsgate Week (16th to 21st August 2010) is an ideal time to hold a regatta. Families can enjoy the regatta as part of a summer holiday, with Ramsgate boasting fine sandy beaches. European holidays in August also make it easy for competitors from the continent to come over. Competitors can also take advantage of the music festival taking place in the neighbouring town of Broadstairs.

The delights of Ramsgate: The marina is a few minutes walk from Ramsgate town centre, with lots of bars, restaurants and a local supermarket. There are a number of affordable hotels and B&B’s and advice on arranging crew houses is available.

Fantastic transport links, both by land and sea: Ramsgate is ideally situated for boats travelling from the south or east coasts, or indeed from France, Belgium or Holland. With the ferry from Oostende, good train links from London and simple routes via motorway from the south, the east or London, Ramsgate is an easily accessible venue.
