Royal Temple Sailing Academy
Inspiring the Next Generation of Sailors
Every experienced sailor began somewhere.
At Royal Temple Yacht Club, we want to help young people take their next steps in sailing, develop their confidence and discover the opportunities that the sport can offer.
From Dinghy Sailing to Yacht Racing
Our Academy is designed to help enthusiastic young sailors build on their existing experience by introducing them to the challenges and excitement of sailing larger yachts.
Through practical experience, mentoring and participation in club activities, young sailors can develop their skills and understanding of yacht racing.
Learn from Experienced Sailors
Academy participants have opportunities to learn from experienced yacht owners and crew members, developing their seamanship, teamwork, communication and confidence on the water.
Sailing Skills for Life
Sailing teaches far more than how to handle a boat.
It encourages responsibility, leadership, teamwork and decision-making — valuable skills both afloat and ashore.
For some, yacht sailing may become a lifelong recreational passion. For others, it may provide a foundation for future opportunities in the marine industry.
Your Sailing Journey Starts Here
If you’re a young sailor aged between 13 & 22 looking to gain experience aboard larger yachts, or looking to make your career in the superyacht industry we’d love to hear from you.

The Royal Temple Yacht Club looks to inspire a small intake of new students each year to our Sailing Academy. We are looking for keen youngsters (experience not essential but enthusiasm is key)
We bring on the water racing experience, classroom learning and all the help and guidance you will need to take part in our local weekend yacht racing.
There is something for everyone and over the years we have several members who started their sailing in Ramsgate and have gone on to make a highly lucrative career out of sailing and are highly valued Captains on some of the worlds largest superyachts. See below Sailing Yacht Shamana a Swann 115 with 28 pro crew aboard winning the Superyacht Maxi class world championship in Porto Chervo.
The captain started his career at the Royal Temple Yacht Club.
